2024 Halliday Wine Companion

We did pretty well the 2024 Halliday Wine Companion. Results and reviews below.

Owner Nic Peterkin is the grandson of the late Diana and Kevin Cullen (Cullen Wines) and the son of Mike Peterkin (Pierro). After graduating from the University of Adelaide with a master's degree in oenology and travelling the world as a Flying Winemaker, he came back to roost in Margaret River with the ambition of making wines that are a little bit different, but abo within the bounds of conventional oenological science. He intends to keep the project small.

Wildberry Springs Chardonnay 2021, Margaret River

There is just something special about this wine. It has all the power and thrust of Wilyabrup fruit, yet remains tight and linear. The wine is fermented in quartz amphora and aged 10 months, which partly explains the pure chardonnay character shining through. It has depth and refinement with a seemingly everlasting finish. Superb drink.

CBDB Chenin Blanc Dynamic Blend 2021, Margaret River

Fragrant with white blossom and ginger flower. Quite high-toned in a way, with apple pie, creamed honey, quince paste and lively lemon-lime juice and zest. It's racy thanks to the refreshing, brisk acidity, yet with plenty of slippery texture. It's a gorgeous wine. And seriously, how can you not love a wine called CBDB (chenin blanc dynamic blend)?

Albino PNO Rosé 2021, Margaret River

Searching for a rosé with texture, flavour and an X-factor? Look no more. Pale copper hue with a savoury twang alongside a whisper of red fruits, baked apple and lemon zest. Tangy and juicy with plenty of spicy character, but it's the palate that sings. Lively, refreshingly pure and long.

Barrels of Metricup Chardonnay 2021, Margaret River

Packed with flavour from white peach, citrus and lemon balm to ginger flower, yet it's definitely a savoury drink. Fuller bodied with creamy lees and plenty of mouthwatering acidity. It's buoyant and lively with good tension and great definition.

Granite Grenache 2021, Geographe

This is heady with wild strawberries, pomegranate and raspberry jubes with a sprinkle of woodsy spices and a hint of fresh herbs. It's vibrant with supple, sweet tannins across the mid-weighted palate and a bright acidity that makes this refreshing and pleasing in equal measure.
