2023 L.A.S. Vino Chardonnay

A new wine from the team at L.A.S. Vino. All of the fruit has been

hand-picked, and cold pressed as whole bunches. The fruit is sourced

from several vineyards in Margaret River. 90% gin-gin / 10% clone 3.

One vineyard located in Willyabrup, one in Metricup and one in

Treeton. The fruit fermented and matured in barrique (5% new) and

went through a partial mlf with fortnightly lees stirring, prior to

blending and bottling.

Nic Peterkin has produced two more expensive chardonnays from the 2023 vintage— Metricup and Wildberry Springs—but I thought this one offered outstanding value.

Nutty, nougat, wheaty, honeyed aromas, butter joining in with time in the glass. Complex yet understated. Medium-long, harmonious finish. A superb wine in a slightly lighter style than the single-vineyard chardies.

    2023 L.A.S. Vino Chardonnay

Fleshy, textural thing, this. Full flavour, lots of energy, persistence too, sweet spices stain the palate and a roll call of stone fruits, gingery spice, some nougat elements and a touch of sugared almond. Delicious, is the message. Potent and pretty with presence and a sense of power. Done well.
